Our virtual Indian instrument SwarPlug has now been ported to the iOS platform as an Audio Unit Extension (AUv3). This is a new plugin format that can load within AUv3 compatible DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) like Garageband, Cubasis or AUM. Just add a new MIDI track, select SwarPlug as the virtual instrument, and you are ready to go adding that extra Indian spice to your compositions.
Initially only Tabla is included but you can add any of the 79 voices through In App Purchasing. Each voice comes with its MIDI loops that you can audition directly in the plugin, and then import within your DAW through an Open In dialog.
You can download SwarPlug for iOS directly on your iPad by going into the App Store and searching for "SwarPlug".
iShala is an Indian music software that combines a tabla machine, a lehra player and an electronic tanpura. It provides rhythmic and melodic accompaniment for music practice or just to jam along virtual musicians.
Featured instruments are Tabla, Harmonium, Swarmandal and Tanpura. You can select to play one or all of them, and they will automatically synchronize together.
Includes 32 rhythmic cycles and 72 melodic tunes in 10 different ragas (All, Asavari, Chandrakauns, Durga, Gunkari, Jaijaivanti, Lalit, Sohini, Todi and Yaman) and 7 different tempos: possible combinations are thus nothing short of infinite!
iShala on iOS is now Audiobus-compatible, which means that you can route its live audio output to other Audiobus-compatible apps. For instance you chain audio effects to transform the sound, or mix your voice and iShala into a Garageband recording. See http://audiob.us for more information.
You can download iShala directly on your handheld by going into the App Store/Play Store and searching for "ishala".
You should then see the icon below
iShala is priced the equivalent of 17 CHF and about 16 MB to download.
Updates will be free.
We have now ported both our Indian classical music multimedia tutorials ( Swar Tutorial ) onto the mobile devices.
These new apps have been named as "Raga & Tala" for the North Indian classical music (Hindusthani) and "Ragam & Talam" for the South Indian tradition (Carnatic). They will give you a guided tour round the beauties and intricacies of these marvellous art forms, in both their melodical and rhythmic aspects.
Both apps can be downloaded directly from the Play Store for less than $2 each. These are aimed primarily at tablets, but you can also use them on mobiles with good resolution, if small fonts don't frighten you.
Tanpura Droid is the software version of a Tanpura, this sitar-like instrument used in Indian classical music to play a drone sound throughout a musical performance.
Whether you practice Indian music or just want a meditative background sound for relaxing, we hope you'll enjoy this little free app!
You can download Tanpura Droid from your Android mobile, by going into the Play Store icon and searching for Tanpura.
